On September 18, 2022, Beyond the post-soviet co-organized a performance The Method of Constructing Political Truth by Alevtina Kakhidze, in the Center Pompidou in Paris, as part of the 'Extra!' festival. You can now view the full recording of the performance via the link in bio.
Delving into the Russian invasion of Ukraine and addressing the contentious issues associated with this ongoing undeclared war, Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze presented together with Oleksiy Ananov a new interpretation of The Method of Constructing Political Truth, originally dating back to 2014.
The performance was inspired by the form of a press conference, weaving together drawing, performance, and text. From the perspectives of a tourist, a mediator, a “fighter against electricity,” and a gardener, the artist crafted responses to polemic political questions: why won't the Ukrainians surrender? Are all Russians to blame for this war? What to do with a country that behaves like a terrorist with a nuclear button? And to many others.
The adaptation of the performance was curated by Sasha Baydal. The event was realized in the Center Pompidou in collaboration with the Centre national des arts plastiques and Beyond the post-soviet. It benefited from the support of the Ukrainian Institute, the Embassy of Ukraine in France, and the DOFA fund. Research and production were supported by TOGETHER UNTIL _ __ (what)* ? and Le Crédac.
